Wandsworth Police shares 'The Postbag of Thanks' with excerpts of letters from grateful residents

As stories of police-perpetrated abuse of women have continued to emerge since the murder of Sarah Everard, public trust in the Metropolitan Police Service has continued to sink.

Contrasting the sickening crimes of officers whose names we in consequence well know is the quiet service of their anonymous colleagues.

Wandsworth Police today (Friday, February 17) shared a handful of letters received from grateful residents who were this week helped by the latter.

Readers with us from day dot of our launch will know Battersea Nub News always brings the hard news stories going on in the community, but also shine a light on the positive stories - local causes, high street happenings, and unsung heroes.

With that in mind, we bring you this handful of heartwarming letters written to Wandsworth Police. Scroll down for cheering excerpts from 'The Postbag of Thanks'.

"My mother in law collapsed at home and was unable to move to summon help. We are unsure how long she was on the bathroom floor, she thinks it was two days but more likely one. She managed to alert a neighbour in the flat below who called both police and ambulance, with the police having to break the glass next to her front door to get in. In hospital later, the injured lady was full of praise for the way your officers helped her and when we went to her flat yesterday, most of the glass had been swept up by one of the PCs. Please thank them for their kind, reassuring presence".

"On Thursday, my child fell from his bike and two officers on patrol stopped to help my kids. They were very kind and looked genuinely concerned".

"Two officers came to help with a welfare check on my friend, who has been struggling with severe depression and alcoholism, and had passed out after overdosing on painkillers and alcohol showed the Met at its most professional and empathetic. A real tribute to the force. These two officers showed him nothing but kindness and humanity. As a result, I got him to hospital, and he got the treatment he needed. Now we are on the path to getting him more help for his alcoholism, anxiety and depression. Without their help, none of that would have been possible. At a time when the Met is under intense criticism, they showed the best side of policing. They really made a big difference to someone's life. Please pass on my thanks".
