A seventh floor flat in Battersea has been destroyed after a fire broke out at the property.

The London Fire Brigade was called to Ingrave Street at 6.23pm yesterday (Thursday, February 23) following 40 emergency calls to the 999 Control room.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters attended the scene and led one woman and two men to safety wearing smoke hoods to help filter the most toxic gases in fire (carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, hydrogen chloride and acrolein).

They were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service.

Fire crews from Tooting, Lambeth, Brixton, Chelsea and Hammersmith fire stations had the highly visible blaze under control by 7.59pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
