Residents are divided over the news that Northcote Road will be pedestrianised this summer.

One local resident said: "Fantastic news. Bringing local people together by making streets pedestrian friendly and helping shops increase footfall. Well done Wandsworth Council."

However some feel the council has not listened to the worries of local people.

One resident from Clapham said: "I hear that it is [the pedestrianisation] to be from April to September, despite many many objections from local resident and independent retailers."

Other residents to the area were concerned about how the cost of closures would be covered saying: "If they want to close Northcote Road then make the businesses cover the costs."

But a young professional who lives close to Northcote Road told Battersea Nub News: "I think that pedestrianisation of Northcote Road draws people, not just from Battersea and Wandsworth, but across London to the area to support local businesses.

"In the summer is had a Mediterranean vibe, with al fresco dining that is unmissable!"

With another adding: "Worked so well, it was great to have a sense of togetherness after being in our households for the last year."

The busy street was closed during the summer months of 2020 and 2021 over the weekends to increase footfall and help support local businesses.

Wandsworth Council confirmed that the pedestrianisation would go ahead this summer.
