Battersea residents who feel Smuggler's Way is too far away for a dump run will delight in hearing Mega Skip Day will return next Saturday.

Mega Skip Days are held in Wandsworth every month as part of council efforts to deter flytipping. Usually there is a charge for bulky waste collections, but skips placed at multiple occasions around the borough makes it easy for residents to remove large household items - including mattresses, sofas and some electrical equipment - for free.

Cllr Judi Gasser, cabinet member for the environment, said: "We know residents appreciate the opportunity to put their bulky waste in megaskips, which is why we have made Mega Skip Day monthly. We are putting the skips in different locations around the borough each month. If you know an area that would benefit from one, email me at [email protected]."

Mega Skip Day - Saturday January 28, 9am-12pm

Where: Skips will be placed at the following locations. The Council expects high demand on the day so will operate on a first come first served basis. When the skips are full they will let residents know via twitter. Make sure to check their feed before setting off.

Wandsworth has reminded residents that the skips are for household waste only, not business waste, and that they can bring any of the following:

  • Carpet
  • Computers and IT equipment
  • Furniture - e.g. mattresses, sofas, tables etc...
  • Microwaves and small electrical appliances
  • Batteries (but no car batteries)
  • Bicycles
  • Cardboard
  • Black bags

Do not bring the following:

  • No hazardous objects or dangerous materials: such as sharp objects, needles, dangerous chemicals, plasterboard, flammable liquids and asbestos
  • Paint
  • Concrete
  • Car batteries
  • Cement, rubble or hardcore
  • Plasterboard
  • Engine oil/cooking oil
  • Fridges or other large electrical appliances

Report fly-tips on the council website wandsworth.gov.uk/flytipping.
