Battersea's MP called out to 'set the record straight'
Battersea MP, Marsha De Cordova, has been called out by Wandsworth council leader to set the record straight after claiming her queries were ignored on controversial statues and street names.
In a series of media interviews conducted last week Ms De Cordova said she had written to the council last year to raise concerns over "offensive street names" and told the BBC and the Evening Standard that she had not received a reply.
Wandsworth Council leader Ravi Govindia, said: "Unfortunately the MP appears to have overlooked the reply she was sent and wrongly accused the council and its staff.
"I would urge her now to set the record straight as a matter of urgency."
The council claims that Ms De Cordova received a full response on September 25, 2020.
Her letter dated June 26, 2020 asked if the council would be reviewing murals, street names, street art, statues and memorials in Wandsworth's "public landscape".
The council maintain that the reply confirmed that a review had taken place and it had concluded there was no knowledge of controversial names commemorated in artworks, monuments or assets in the boroughs "public realm" - land owned, managed or controlled by the council.
Ms De Cordova was not available to comment at this time.
