Battersea residents were devastated to find out last week that Kapihan, a popular coffee house and Filipino bakery would close its doors from Monday November 1.
In an Instagram post they told their followers that they would cease trading from 13A Parkgate Road.
The previous landlord of the property passed away earlier this year from covid and the space was put up for auction.
Unfortunately for locals the new owner has alternative plans for the home of Kapihan and so quickly asked them to find somewhere else to sell their delicious food and drinks.
Speaking to Battersea Nub News, Nigel Motley, co-founder and director of Kapihan said: "We'd love to stay in Battersea, we see it as our home, in Parkgate Road."
He said they are hoping to confirm a new space by the New Year.
Mr Motley confirmed that once they have their first shop re-homed they are also considering opening a second site.
He said: "First thing is to nail down the first one, to open a mother site which will host our roastery and bakery, then hopefully a second site to test our brand somewhere new."
On weekends it is not unusual to see a queue forming outside the sun trap in the heart of Battersea. It was no surprise that fans of the local gem expressed their disappointment with the Instagram post receiving over 400 comments.
Kapihan was founded in 2019 and began as Kape and Pan at a kiosk in SOAS University, moving to Battersea in August of that year.
The British-Filipino brothers, Nigel and David Motley, have won over residents and Londoners everywhere with their Barako coffee and Pandesal, making it one of the best bakeries in the capital.
We are happy to say that we are certain this is not the end for Kapihan.
