Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms station will host a three kilometre light installation between them, projecting their underground course into the sky on October 29 and 30 2021.

Line of Light will celebrate the communities that live above the new tunnels of the tube extension and the new Northern line stations that were opened on Monday September 20 2021.

The large scale installation was created by Australian artists Projection Teknik and will include moving projections reflected on buildings along the route inspiring themes of connectivity and togetherness.

Sam Jones, lead artist of SoundThread is working with community leaders, libraries, local arts organisations and Royal College of Art students to create an 'album' of the area that reflects the diversity of the people and places.

Violinist Emma Smith will interpret local musicians' music into a string arrangement, and the audio tapestry will be released as a series of 3-7 minute podcasts available to download from the website to listen to while walking the route or from the comfort of home.

There will also be two free festival hubs running activities from 4-9pm on both days which will bring together local businesses and community's free performances.

The New Union Square hub will feature street entertainment and acoustic acts, while the hub near Nine Elms station will feature live music with a line-up of local acts to be announced.

Local representatives of the area are looking forward to seeing the installation.

Wandsworth Councillor Steffi Sutters, Cabinet Member for Community Services and Open Spaces, said: "The Line of Light festival will be a landmark celebration of the historic opening of the Northern line extension which is a complete game-changer for this part of Battersea and Nine Elms."

Lambeth Councillor, Sonia Winifred, Cabinet Member for Equalities and Culture said: "We hope this festival will have something for everyone and showcases the creative talents of all the artists involved."

Projection Teknik was established in 1992 by Nick Azidis an Australian born new media artist. Nick is interested in storytelling and creating eternal memories.

The installation will appear 6:30pm-10pm and run between Battersea Power Station tube station on Battersea Park Road, Nine Elms station on Wandsworth Road and Kennington Station.
