The recent drop in temperature in Battersea is expected to continue until the weekend, with a severe cold weather warning issued from the Met Office in place until 9am on Friday.

Amidst the cost-of-living crisis and soaring energy bills, the cold snap can put vulnerable people across the UK at greater health risk as well as discomfort.

Dr Agostinho Sousa, consultant in public health medicine at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), said older people and those with heart or lung conditions are particularly at risk from the cold weather, adding: "If you have a pre-existing medical condition, you should heat your home to a temperature that is comfortable for you.

For Wandsworth residents who are struggling to keep warm this winter, a network of 'Warm Spaces' has been established across the borough with a mix of council-owned venues amongst community-managed buildings.

A cold snap in London is forecast to last until Friday

As well as shelter from the cold, some venues offer hot drinks, snacks, meals and a place to shower and wash.

People are welcome at any of the borough's 11 libraries where they can keep warm and enjoy free internet access.

Local residents will find a range of other events such as children's activities and coffee mornings at Battersea Library (265 Lavender Hill), Battersea Park Library (309 Battersea Park Road) and Northcote Library (155e Northcote Road).
