Winds have picked up across the capital this morning as Storm Eunice gets into full swing.

Battersea Park Children's Zoo and Vauxhall City Farm announced their decision to shut for the day (February, 18) in order to protect their animals.

A red warning has been issued across the capital which means there is a risk to life, especially due to flying debris and fallen trees.

Whilst it may be hard to imagine the storm picking up a fully grown adult, it's not so impossible to conceive it sweeping sway one of Battersea Zoo's beloved meerkats from their enclosure.

Vauxhall City Farm told MyLondon: "The horses and goats and sheep will stay in their stables. They won't go out in the paddock across the road because they are at risk of debris that might blow into the paddock.

"We've moved the ducks to a more secure enclosure. We have our animal staff on site who will be keeping an eye on any issues."

Battersea Park Children's Zoo took to Twitter to make the announcement: "Due to adverse weather and strong winds forecast with the approaching Storm Eunice, we have decided to close Battersea Park Children's Zoo tomorrow, Friday 18th February."

Vauxhall City Farm said: "Vauxhall City Farm will be closed today due to Storm Eunice. Apologies for any inconvenience.

We will contact anyone who has bookings at the farm today to let you know your options." Got a story? Get in touch with Lexi Iles via [email protected] or call 07964789627 [I]Find all the latest news for your local area by following us on Facebook,Twitter and Instagram.
