Left in the lurch-er: One of Britain’s loneliest dogs is seeking their first loving home after spending more than 365 days at a rescue centre

One of Britain's loneliest dogs is still waiting for a loving owner to give him a forever home - after spending more than 365 days living in rescue centre kennels.

Henry, a three-year-old lurcher, first arrived at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home after being discovered as a stray over a year ago.

But so far nobody has stepped forward to give the bashful pooch his first ever home after he was repeatedly overlooked due to being "too sensitive".

Henry has now been at the charity's Battersea Old Windsor site, in Windsor, Berkshire, for more than ten times the average stay of 34 days.

He is described as being a "ladies man", affectionate and loving - but can be timid and anxious when it comes to meeting new people.

Staff say his shy nature may be one of the reasons why he keeps being overlooked by potential new owners as they continue to try and find him a new home.

Hannah Gee, dog rehoming team leader at Battersea, Old Windsor, said: "Henry came into Battersea as a stray, so we do not know much about his history.

"However since he has been with us, he has been very affectionate and is looking forward to finally having a home of his own.

"When Henry gets to know you his loving and scatty side shines through - he absolutely loves curling up together with his favourite people and adores a duvet.

"Henry struggles with anxiety and is looking to find somebody who can spend and dedicate time with him until he is feeling settled.

"He's also something of a ladies' man although he has been building his confidence in this area whilst he's been with us, and this is something new owners can continue to develop with ongoing support from our experts here at Battersea."

Staff at the animal centre marked the unwanted milestone of an entire year at the site

by treating him to a long walk and a picnic complete with dog chews and gifts.

Adorable photos show Henry surrounded by presents wrapped in specially designed gift wrap adorned with his own face.

Battersea say Henry would benefit from being the only dog in a house with owners who ideally have experience with sighthounds

Anyone who thinks they can offer Henry a new home, can visit the Battersea website.
