Land Rover overturns on Wandsworth Road during police chase
A Land Rover overturned and caught fire after it crashed during a police chase in the early hours of this morning (January 9).
The Land Rover Discovery flipped onto its side at around 1.50am after hitting "street furniture" on Wandsworth Road, nearby the junction with Union Grove.
Following this, the vehicle caught fire.
The driver, a male, is alleged to have failed to stop for police when signalled to. He and three more occupants from the car were treated at the scene by paramedics and confirmed to have no serious injuries.
London Fire Brigade crews were at the scene by 1.56am and extinguished the fire in less than an hour.
Four men were arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, failing to stop for police and aggravated vehicle theft.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police told local journalists: "At around 1:50am on Monday, 9 January a Land Rover Discovery was involved in a single vehicle collision in Wandsworth Road, close to the junction with Union Grove, in Lambeth.
"The driver had failed to stop for police nearby.
"As a result of the collision, the vehicle overturned and caught fire. The London Fire Brigade assisted.
"Four men were arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, failing to stop for police and aggravated vehicle theft.
"There were no reports of any serious injuries."
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade: "Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on Wandsworth Road in the early hours of this morning.
"One vehicle had collided with street furniture and crews worked to make the scene safe.
"Four people were treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews. "The Brigade was called at 1.56am and the incident was over for firefighters by 2.45.
"Firefighters from Clapham fire station attended the scene."
