Wandsworth Council is hoping to raise awareness during Dementia Action Week.

May 16-27 is Dementia Action Week and recent figures suggest that almost seven per cent of Wandsworth's over 65s are living with diagnosed or undiagnosed dementia.

People are being urged to act as soon as possible if they think someone close to them could be showing symptoms of dementia.

Nationally diagnosis rates have fallen to a five year low, meaning many people may not know they have the disease and so don't seek out guidance and support.

Symptoms to look out for include memory loss, confusion, personality changes and changes in behaviour.

Whilst getting a diagnosis may be daunting research form the Alzheimer's Society shows that 91 per sent of people affected by dementia believe it is better to know.

You can visit the Alzheimer's Society website for more information and support.
