Local residents can visit a pop-up farm in Clapham Junction as a national week of community action kickstarts this weekend.

As part of the programme of events taking place in Wandsworth to mark the Great Big Green Week, Shallowford Farm will travel with their animals and team from Devon to establish a farm in Battersea for five days.

A Charitable Trust that provides residential farming experiences for young people from inner city areas, Shallowford Farm's 'Farm 2 City' experience will host a free, open day for members of the public to attend at Providence House on Saturday, June 10.

Schools are invited to visit on days prior to this, with an hour to visit the animals plus brief educational activities scheduled.

The pop-up farm is one of more than 50 activities and events being held across the borough for the Great Big Green Week.

Beginning June 10, activities scheduled until June 18 include gardening groups, seed bomb workshops, bat walks, book clubs and a wild scavenger hunt.

Judi Gasser, cabinet member for the environment, said: "We're going all out in Wandsworth to put the big in Great Big Green Week. There's loads of free activities that will be a fun way to engage with issues around climate change, air quality and biodiversity.

"We have set tough carbon reduction targets for Wandsworth, and we want to work with groups and communities all over the borough to achieve them. The Big Green Week activities give a taste of some of the fantastic work going to change minds and behaviours and to meet the climate change challenge."
