Battersea pub The Queens Arms seeks new landlord
Yet another new future awaits the Queens Arms with the Battersea pub now for sale.
For several years uncertainty has plagued the wedge-shaped corner pub. Situated behind Queenstown Road, on St Philip Street, since 1865, the Queens Arms closed in March 2017 to allow for major redevelopment of the building's upper floors.
Planning permission allowed architects Boon Brown to add a new storey to the roof, extend the upper floors and reorganise the interior to create five flats – four with two bedrooms and one studio.
A battle to convert the ground floor change of use from a pub to a shop was, meanwhile, unsuccessful, Wandsworth Council having passed a rule protecting 120 pubs in the borough from redevelopment.
Weeks after the Queens Arms returned as a pub in 2020 another lockdown was announced. Combined with its off-the-beaten track location in the Park Town Conservation Area, the Victorian boozer struggled to get fully back on its feet and closed permanently in summer, 2022.
The lease is for sale with Davis Coffer Lyons who market the property as a three-storey brick building with a flat roof. On its website it says: "The ground floor comprises of an open plan trade area, served by a single bar servery. Ancillary accommodation is formed of customer WC's and storage. To the basement is the trade kitchen, beer cellar and stores."
Whether the now Labour-run Wandsworth Council would open the door to a change of use is unknown, but for now, this Battersea pub is after a new landlord.
