The S.M.I.L.E-ING Boys Project is now in Battersea - catch it before it ends
Head to Battersea Power Station to enjoy this collection of portraits for free.
S.M.I.L.E-ING Boys Project was recently displayed at Southside shopping centre but if you missed it the first time around, you can catch it at the Power Station until the end of the month.
The S.M.I.L.E (Send Me Inspiring Loving Enegery)-ing Boys project is a research led creative-project created by the artist Kay Rufai and backed by Wandsworth Council.
Rufai created the project in direct response to the rise in violence affecting young people which sparked a series of reactionary approaches from government regarding tougher criminalisation of youth, more stop and searches and greater police presence in global majority communities.
Through travelling and research trips Rufai uncovered eight main factors he found responsible for rates of happiness in different countries.
With this information the artist made a series of photography, poetry and discussion-based art workshops with 13-15 year old Black boys, delivered by Rufai himself.
The project took place in three separate Wandsworth schools, with 60 black boys from St John Bosco, Ark Putney and Ark Bollingbroke.
The exhibition is free to the public and on display on Arches Lane in Circus West Village from now until March 31.
