Transport for London are calling for locals to have their say over changes to the walking and cycle paths from Chelsea to Lambeth Bridge.
In June and July 2020 temporary changes were made to the Cycle Superhighway 8 Phase I (CS8) between the north end of Lambeth Bridge and Chelsea Bridge in order to make it easier for people to cycle, walk and use the bus.
The CS8 cycle lane was originally built in 2010 and is a key strategic cycle corridor to bring cyclists safely into central London.
Temporary changes in 2020 were made as part of an emergency response to the coronavirus pandemic.
One of the changes was a ban to traffic from turning left into Chelsea Bridge from Grosvenor Road.
It was felt that this would provide better protection to people cycling.
In the three years before the scheme 10 people were hurt in collisions at this junction.
Junctions along the river onto the bridges have proven to be a danger zone for cyclists and pedestrians.
Just earlier this year a cyclist was killed by a truck turning left onto Battersea Bridge from Chelsea Embankment.
Physically segregating cyclists by banning the left turn onto Chelsea Bridge means cyclists are better protected.
TFL have recently decided to keep these changes as part of an experiment and test the scheme for up to 18 months.
Have your say in the consultation on the TFL website.
The consultation will run until November 9, 2022.
